Activities and Awards of the World Affairs

A former civil trial attorney at the Law Offices of John S. Kalil, Judge Michael Kalil obtained his JD at Stetson College of Law in Florida and started serving as a state circuit judge with Florida’s Fourth Judicial Circuit from January 2021. Michael Kalil is also an active member of the World Affairs Council of Jacksonville.

A nonprofit organization, The World Affairs Council of Jacksonville comprises a growing community of more than 1000 members, who aim to help the residents of Northeast Florida become more informed about global affairs and to engage with international communities. The Council provides members with a plethora of educational opportunities: their Global Issues Evenings and Global Business Luncheons regularly invite guest speakers to involve the community in insightful discussions about current affairs. It organizes initiatives for teachers and learners along the First Coast, such as teacher enrichment programs and high school cultural knowledge competitions. In addition, trips organized from the World Affairs Council gives members chances to travel around the world for projects.

As such, The World Affairs Council of Jacksonville has received a number of awards for their multifaceted approach to community education. In 2005, the World Affairs Councils of America gave them the President’s Award for Outstanding Achievement, which singles out the local organizations that illustrate exceptional growth and impact. They also received the Presidential Medallion by the University of North Florida in 2012 in recognition for service and dedication to higher education. More recently, the Jacksonville Business Journal named the World Affairs Council a 2017 Innovator in Education for Great Decisions.
